Imagine my surprise!
Finally, Japanese children can now experience the joy of reading Peyo's Smurfs comic books.
They're translated from French into Japanese, and published by Komine Shoten Publishing Co.
There's even an attractive website: http://www.komineshoten.co.jp/smurf/

So, blue buddies, what do you think of these? I love them! Do any of you speak Japanese? I know a little, and it would be great to read these, to see how good the translation is.
Here is a letter from the translator, Sadafumi Muramatsu. He talks about how wonderful the smurfs are and the lessons they teach, how much he loves his business card with the little smurf on it... Also talks about how he had a hard time translating some of the puns, and poetic nuances. "Translation work is a series of joys and sorrows." http://www.komineshoten.co.jp/smurf/smurf_trns.html
I love their simple, bright, clean covers. They remind me of the Papercutz cover designs very much.
They have The Black Smurfs, King Smurf, The Smurfette, The Astro Smurf and The Baby Smurf.

Great,Japan got the comics now it's time for Thailand... It may never happen since the japanese anime are dominating both TV series, merchandise and especially comic books market in Thailand. But smurfs actually been in Japan for quite some time now. It sucks to be a smurf fan here...
