Normally I wouldn't post this until it's entirely finished, but anyway here's the start of my latest fan adaptation, "La Grande Schtroumpfette", or "The Great Smurfette", which here is referred to as "Smurfette The Great". This book was published in 2010.

It must have been more than more than forty years since "The Smurfette" that the Smurfette (she is always called that in the comics, not simply "Smurfette" as found in the cartoon series and 2011 live-action/CGI film) has been the central character in a Smurf story. I wonder what she will be like in 2016 when the 50th Anniversary of her debut occurs. She has changed very little since 1966.
Something I noticed by reading the Smurf comic stories and gags in French is how most of Smurfs use the French second pronoun "tu" to refer to each other, but when they speak to the Smurfette, they always use the formal "vous." Even Papa Smurf uses "vous" when addressing her even though she is not his social equal. She uses "tu" to the other Smurfs with the expection of Papa Smurf.
This is something that is not shown in English as there are no formal or informal second-personal pronouns in the language. The formality of the pronouns used may show how the attitude the Smurfs have towards the Smurfette.

I generally remove Frenchisms from the dialogue of the Smurfs because I don't see them as French characters and neither do most Americans. I also don't find it particularly appropriate to translate Grand Schtroumpfette as Mama Smurf, so that's why Smurfette The Great gets used instead.
