Fantastic! I really enjoyed this story, and all its revealing layers. Thanks!
Though, I just know if they'd adapted this one into a cartoon episode, Brainy would have been Finance Smurf and he'd have ended up getting booted out of the Village, while Finance Smurf just gets to join the party. Hardly fair... LOL!

The idea has been done before in the cartoon show, with "The Smurfs And The Money Tree". Though with adapting this into a cartoon show episode, I can only imagine Dabbler being thrust into the role of Finance Smurf. The scene with one Smurf seeing another Smurf preparing to leave the Smurf Village in my mind would be Hefty doing the leaving and Handy seeing it happening and deciding that he was much happier doing things for other Smurfs when he didn't have to think about money.
Anyway, I tried to keep the dialogue as close to the spirit of the original French text as possible, but there are some places where the characters do swear: Miner refers to gold by a French term that means excrement, which I changed to "worthless yellow smurf", and Handy uses a French exclamation, "M'enfin", which after I found out what it really means was changed to "Oh, smurf it all". In most other cases, when it comes to the Smurfs swearing in the original French text (mostly "****"), it's easy to hide it by changing the word to "smurf". Gargamel, who uses the term "****" in the French text, was given adjectives similar to what his character would say in the cartoon show. And Homnibus, who says "****" when he finds out that he is out of lime, was simply given "oh no!"
Farmer Smurf in the original French text says "cre vingt schtroumpfs", which is a variant of "cre vingt dieux", or "sacred twenty gods". It was changed to "sweet mother of smurf".
The inclusion of the modified Smurf song near the end of the story was done just for fun.

It was always interesting seeing the Smurfs have typically human characteristics concerning novelties or new systems; besides 'King Smurf', 'The Egg and the Smurfs', this comic is an example: friendship decline, intolerance and impatience with each other (page 40), adulation (eg page 41), so on.
