Well, now you mention it, how was Nanny Smurf created? If Smurfettes only exist using Gargamel's recipe, then did they use his formula?

As far as I know, Nanny is the only "real" female Smurf. The other two were creations. That being said, I would presume she came about as any other Smurf... delivered as a baby by a stork during a blue moon.

Does Smurfette normally have a flower on her hat? I made my daughter a Smurfette costume and I have seen some pictures of others in costume with sunflowers on her hat, but thru a google search of Smurfette, I couldn't find a image of her with a flower. I did find Vanity with a flower on his hat. So, flower or not for Smurfette?

I'd say no flower as a rule. Vanity is the only Smurf that normally wears a flower.
But if your daughter likes the flower, then just go for it! Fun is what it's all about!! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Hi Bibbitt Smurf,
Why should Vanity Smurf have all the fun? While Smurfette usually doesn't have a flower in her hat, there are a few cases where she does! So if you and your daughter like the look of the flower then go for it!!! For example, the Smurfette Movie Figure has a red flower on Smurfette's hat.

i have a smurf that was purchased for one of my children in the late 70's, early 80's - it has the payo signature on one foot and the schleich name on the other....but it is not blue, it is black. i remember picking it up from a box on the checkout counter because i had never seen one that wasn't blue. what's up with this smurf?

Hi Mackenzie,
Welcome to BlueBuddies! Sounds like you have the "scary" Black Smurf figure. He first came out in the late 1960s. In the stories / cartoon, he ran around saying, "Gnap, Gnap" and biting the other Smurf's tails! They later changed his color to be a Purple Smurf.

I have a question. I read the Smurfs have a Long Life Force Stone that slows aging. How DO they age? Does the stone stop their aging altogether? How are the majority of the Smurfs a different age than Baby and Papa, Grandpa and Nanny? Or is their aging merely slowed? And if the Stone were lost, would Smurfs age like humans, or age more rapidly and live only a few weeks or months?
I know that's actually a bunch of questions, lol. It's just something that's been on my mind. Any ideas? ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

The proper name is the Long Life Stone, and basically it slows down their aging to the point where they live for centuries, with Grandpa Smurf being the oldest. Without the stone's power, they would age rather rapidly and their village would also fall apart. Note that this is the cartoon show continuity: in something like the Smurfs movie universe, it is presumed that their slowed-down aging is naturally inherent, and apparently Smurf essence has properties in it that can restore people's youth, like in the case of Odile's mother.

He probably knows it's called the long life stone, so you don't have to correct him! And SmurfFan, I like you're Speedy Smurf! You're very Smurfy at drawing wheelchairs! ![[Smile]](smile.gif)

Oh, and I just read The Smurfin' Guide to The Smurfs, and in that, it calls it the Long Life Force Stone, so it really doesn't matter.

I think they got that term from me, though I may not be the only one who would call it that. Oh well...

They do call it the Long Life Stone in the cartoon, but Peyo had nothing to do with that, so it can be called either way, but I personally prefer the Long Life Stone. ![[Smile]](smile.gif)
