I now have my replacement copy of Season 1 and was watching the episode The Magnifying Mixture, and I noticed the audio go out of sync with the lips in one moment, it's where the Smurfs find out that Brainy had meddled with Papa's formula, and when Hefty brings Gargamel and Azrael to the village with him. I thought it was just my copy, but I have since gone and looked at the episode on YouTube (where there is a syndicated version) and Soku (where there is a full version which is presumably taken from one of the Australian DVDs), and they are all the same. The syndicated version doesn't look as bad with the lips, but it covers up the faults with the episode rather poorly.
Has anyone else ever noticed this? Was it present on the USA DVDs?

That was an animation error that went all the way back to the original 1981-82 broadcast of the episode (although the recycled scenes of Brainy looking worried and the other Smurfs looking annoyed was later recut to fix this). As I recall, originally the scene REALLY went out of sync, with Hefty's mouth moving while Gargemel spoke! (This is from memory, and I don't know if anyone has any recordings of the original broadcast to back my story up, so I could be wrong).

I already made a mention of this at Smurfology about the audio/video unsynchronized problem with the episode in question.
