I'm not sure if I'll go ahead with this idea, I have other projects I'm more interested in, but here it goes anyway-
The Longest Smurf
The Smurfs finally return to thier village from the time warp. Unforunately, it's their village but the date is June 5 1944.
Grandpa Smurf assures the others that now they got the right location, setting the Time Crystal, or whatever that thing was, for the right time would a simple matter.
Meanwhile, Papa Smurf learns from the 1944 Smurfs that several of them have captured by an Axis commander called Lebenabnehmer, literally German for "Life Taker", and are being subjected to cruel experiments designed to unlock the secret of thier longetivity.
Brainy theorizes that returning to their proper time would prevent this from happening in the first place. The others somewhat agree but simply can not stand idly by while fellow Smurfs are suffering. While Grandpa, Clumsy, Painter, and the Smurflings stay behind to prepare the Crystal, the others form a rescue party and head for Lebenabnehmer's island fortress.
Along the way, the Smurfs form alliances with a resistance movement led by Johan and Petwit's descendants, and their aquatic cousins the Snorks who also have members of thier own being experimented on.
And so, while the Allies prepare for thier biggest push into Axis territory, a Smurf-Snork-Human coalition further in prepares to storm Castle Lebenabnehmer.
In case you're wondering, Gargamel's counterpart in 1944 is a civilian scientist who's constantly being bullied by Lebenabnehmer into helping with his experiments.
Any suggestions in case I decide to make this a full story after all? I already know adding in the Snorks is probably a bad idea. Thank you for your time.

So we have a "right place, wrong time period" time travel story as an idea. Star Trek: Voyager did this with their two-part "Future's End" when they accidentally got sucked into the 20th Century along with a 29th Century Federation timeship, arriving near Earth in 1996. The Voyager crew wanted the restored timeship and its captain to bring them back to their right place in time but leave them in the Alpha Quadrant, but its captain refused, saying that that would violate the Temporal Prime Directive.
