Hi, apparently there is going to be a big smurf comeback soon. There is talk of a smurf movie on the way and the first smurf product had been spotted in Walmart
 Smurf View-Master
So watch out, things *may* be about to happen.

I am definitely going to get this. Ok, here is what I've dug up:
The Miami Herald recently reported that View-Master is celebrating their 65th anniversary (wow) by releasing retro-oriented products. They say in part:
"The Retro Time Capsules comes in colors like aqua, fuchsia and neon orange. The capsule includes the View-Master and three reels. Each capsule features one of three nostalgic cartoon serieses -- The Smurfs, The Jetsons and The Flintstones."
They go on to say "This is a fun toy that young kids will like but chances are the Smurfs just can't compete with the appeal of today's action heroes.".
Perhaps we should prove the Miami-Herald wrong?

Do you think that they are going to produce a new Smurfs series at some point, like many of the other older cartoons from the past. A few that have had new versions are: Astroboy, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Spiderman. I want them to release the whole Smurfs series on DVD. I'd get them all.

I heard in MushroomVillage.com's *supposedly* monthly newsletter that IMPS is supposed to be filming a pilot for a new Smurfs series. MV said that it will be some sort of 3-D, kind of Shrek or Finding Nemo-esque animation.
I don't wanna sound pessimistic, but it kind of seems like the new cartoons seem kind of stupid compared to the classic ones. I was watching a new Strawberry Shortcake cartoon and I stopped watching after 20 minutes because it was so boring. But maybe Smurfs won't be that way! I truly think they'll be a really awesome show!

It all depends on the talent that does the writing. Smurfs do require some level of comedy to keep things interesting, and one who really knows the characters inside and out to cast them properly in a story.
