This is not Dupuis Audiovisuel's intent. They intend to make new episodes with snappier dialogue and complex plots. The show is still in production and won't be completed until the summer or fall of 2021.

Definitely like the comics for sure. I'm not worried about the lack of voices as this is a promo trailer.

I'm still waiting to see what the episodes would look like. It's gonna take until summertime to see a full trailer from Nickelodeon or the show will premiere unannounced in the fall.

Still no news from the animation studio. And there's still no news from IMPS. You're going to have to wait until summertime to find out more.

‘Classic Smurfs’ and New 3D Smurfs Series Coming Soon to Netflix Globally
Kasey Moore · @kasey__moore
April 6th, 2021 - 6:40 am ET
The Smurfs will be making their way onto Netflix over the next couple of years with both the brand new animated 3D series and the classic 1980s series also scheduled to drop on Netflix globally. Here’s what we know.
Thanks to a heads-up from our friends over at NickAlive, we’ve learned Netflix will be getting the brand new 3D animated series based on The Smurfs from Q2 2023 (between April and June) after airing first on Nickelodeon.
Nickelodeon is set to receive new 3D series first which is currently scheduled to premiere this October first announced back in March at Nicks Virtual Upfront Show.
In total, 52 episodes are being produced with each running at 11 minutes apiece.
Here’s how the new series is described:
“Based on the iconic property and in partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, The Smurfs is a brand-new original CG-animated TV series following Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy and others, on all-new adventures, packed with humor, heart and high-stakes action.”
YouTube will also stream the new show in some form (5 episodes per season at any time) from Q2 2023 in the US with other regions varying.
Classic Smurfs series also coming to Netflix
The classic series which ran throughout the 1980s will also be available on Netflix globally too.
Although no date was given, the series is expected to drop on Netflix at some point in full across its 9 seasons and 272 episodes in an HD 16:9 format.
Boomerang in the United States will also be air the classic 2D series too.
This makes a nice welcome change as in recent years Netflix has been losing many of its classic cartoons as licenses have expired. In April 2021 for example, Netflix will lose the classic animated series The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog which aired in 1993.
While you’re waiting, Smurfs fans in the United States are also currently able to watch both The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2 available which were both distributed by Sony Pictures. Smurfs – The Lost Village has also appeared on Netflix US in the past and may return in the future. Other region’s availability will differ.
It’s unclear whether the 2011 documentary on the creation of The Smurfs or the 1975 feature film The Smurfs and the Magic Flute will also arrive.

In Belgium it will be the honor of premiering the series from Sunday April 18 at OUFtivi.
Plot: In this new series, audiences will find exciting adventures, wacky situations, witty dialogue, running jokes, and burlesque "squish and stretch" humor. Adults will not be left out, however, finding all the original main characters: Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy Smurf... who will be accompanied by their new Girls' Village neighbors (known in the movie The Smurfs and the Lost Village). His adventures have been totally updated with dialogue more powerful than ever!
There are new images of the series:

'The Smurfs': First Look at New CG-Animated Series Set to Air on Nickelodeon
Friday, April 16, 2021
As previously reported, The Smurfs is set to premiere on Ouftivi in French-speaking Belgium on Sunday 18th April 2021, and to promote the launch of the brand new CG-animated series based the iconic property, Ouftivi has released a teaser trailer, giving us a first look at the all new show!
Based on the iconic property and in partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, The Smurfs (52 11-minute episodes across two seasons) is a brand-new original CG-animated TV series following Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty, Clumsy and others, on all-new adventures, packed with humor, heart and high-stakes action. The series is set to premiere on Nickelodeon in the U.S. in October 2021, and is slated to roll-out on Nickelodeon channels and programming blocks shortly after.
The new 3D The Smurfs series will also be made available on YouTube worldwide from Q2 2022 and will also debut on Netflix services worldwide from Q2 2023.
MPS will be presenting the new The Smurfs series at MIPTV 2021.
The Smurfs is produced by Belgium's Peyo Productions and France's Dupuis Edition & Audiovisuel. It is being directed by William Renaud (Calimero, Casper’s Scare School, A Kind of Magic) and written by Peter Saisselin (Sonic Boom, ALVINNN!!! And the Chipmunks) and Amy Serafin (Sonic Boom, Alvin!!! And the Chipmunks).
In addition to the content partnership, ViacomCBS Consumer Products (VCP) will manage consumer products licensing for The Smurfs property across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia. VCP will seek new merchandising and promotional partners in select categories and territories for The Smurfs classic brand, in addition to a new product line for the new animated series The Smurfs, spanning categories including toys, stationery, apparel and accessories, home, consumer packaged goods and more, to launch at retail in 2022.
MIPTV is the annual spring market for the international television industry, now in its 58th year. Digital MIPTV 2021 will take place exclusively online from 12-16 April, bringing together global distributors, producers, buyers and commissioners of drama, doc, kids, factual and formats programming for a curated week of personalised business meetings, exclusive market intelligence, conference sessions and global networking. MIPTV is traditionally the biggest global week in unscripted television and this year features MIPDoc and MIPFormats within the main market. MIPTV is organized by Reed Exhibitions. Created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, pen name of Pierre Culliford (1928-1992), the Smurfs (French: Les Schtroumpfs) evolved from secondary comic characters in Peyo's Johan and Peewit (French: Johan et Pirlouit) comic series and spinning off into their own series the following year, in which they became the small centerpieces of the massive franchise that skyrocketed to global fame with the 1981 launch of The Smurfs (Smurfs' Adventures) Saturday morning cartoon series, which, produced by Hanna-Barbera aired new episodes on NBC until 1989, running for more than 250 episodes and several specials over nine seasons. It would eventually manifest in live-action CG-animation hybrid splendor on the big screen. The 2011 feature film of the same name and its 2013 sequel, The Smurfs 2 were produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released by Columbia Pictures. Hank Azaria and Neil Patrick Harris starred in live-action roles, with voiceovers by Anton Yelchin, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry (famously providing the voice of Smurfette), Jayma Mays, and George Lopez. A fully CG-animated standalone movie, The Smurfs: Lost Village was released in April 2017, featuring the voices of Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Ellie Kemper, Julia Roberts and Mandy Patinkin. The Smurfs have also featured in two shorts.
