Thank you, GoofySmurf! I hope you will also like what you see when I put Smurfette in a kimono in my next drawing, where she is the hostess of a formal Japanese tea ceremony at her mushroom house. The idea came to me while reading about Japan's preparation for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

It will be a traditional high tea with Smurfette as the hostess and five other Smurfs as her honored guests: Grandpa, Nanny, Papa, Brainy and Vexy (in order from oldest to youngest).

And they will all be wearing contemporary kimonos, not those horrid ones from the last season of the TV series (time travel) where the male kimonos didn't have pants and you saw not only Papa and Clumsy's tails, but also their butts. (And it somehow passed by the network censors at NBC!) If Toei Animation of Tokyo was still Hanna-Barbera's outsourced studio for the series, they would have raised quite a stir!

I'll get it right. No ands, ifs, or smurfs' butts about it. [Wink]

Great job in drawing Nat as an adult Smurf. This would actually be his second time as a grownup because on the TV series and later in Peyo's comics, he was an adult Smurf that accidentally became a Smurfling again, along with Slouchy and Snappy, in Father Time's workshop.

I think the four main Smurflings were Hanna-Barbera's idea, to have child Smurfs that kids at home could relate to. And they've all been adored ever since. [Sassette Smurfling]

Whoa, Richrod, at first, I hope you had a very Happy Smurfday! And your Smurfette and Vexy pics are peppy and charming, as always! [Happy Smurf]
Masked, Greedy Smurf with Baby are so cute, as well as Poet, Harmony and, last but not least, sweet Clumsy Smurf! [Enamored Smurf] Oh, and vexed Smurf too.
Babysmurfrocks, I enjoyed seeing color Schemer with his Pokemon and older Nat with Cheerful; and Baby Smurfs look smurfingly adorable - even tough I guess already what Irritable shall think: "I HATE being adorable!" [Frown]
OK, Carnival is over but only yesterday I really needed to finish this picture with the Smurflings (Baby too) having fun, each of them dressed as hippies - excepting Snappy, who preferred to dress up as his favorite hero - Don Smurfo. [Wink]

I personally hated how the Smurflings were created in the cartoon series (which was eventually adopted by Peyo in the comic books), which is why I chose to have their introduction into the Empath series be totally different. Then again, Nat Smurf was a redundant character whose elements could have been used with Tracker Smurf, showing how he had grown from his attitude in "For The Love Of Gargamel" when leaving Gargamel and Azrael frozen in stone wouldn't seem like a bad idea. Since Nat Smurfling was never an adult Smurf in my series, I just gave most of his adult Smurf stories over to Tapper Smurf.

Very smurfy drawings, Masked Smurf & babysmurfrocks!!!

Can't wait to see Smurfette in a kimono, Richrod!

Super groovy drawing, Squeaky! I would love to see a Don Smurfo figure - that would be amazing. Sounds like a great Carnival!

Can't wait to see that drawing either Sasette. Rich does excellent drawings.

And speaking of that last season Rich, I agree, it was horrid, but that was more due to the fact that they didn't properly end it with them all getting home, though it was hinted at with the arrow. That and Gargy wasn't the original.

In any regard... MORE SMURFETTE!!!! You can put her in anything!

Not having a proper climax story to provide closure for a cartoon series or a season that has a goal-oriented plot was pretty much par for the course when it came to Saturday morning cartoons. The producers were less concerned with actually producing stories with satisfying closures than just producing stories that would get children to sit in front of their TVs to see the characters go through various situations, especially if they're expecting the series to be picked up for another season just so they can continue producing more stories of the same sort without any closure.

In the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf story series, the Season 9 episodes still happen, but they're just referred to as The Lost Year, a period that very few Smurfs really like to talk about.

Sassette, the wait is over! [Smurfette]

Smurfy sisters in cute kimonos! As part of that new Smurf cartoon depicting a Japanese tea ceremony, I am designing kimonos for Smurfette and her guests appropriate for their personalities.

Smurfette's kimono is pink, her favorite color, and decorated with daffodils, orchids and lilies of the valley. Daffodils represent rebirth and new life, like the new life Smurfette began after she left Gargamel and turned into a true Smurf. Orchids represent beauty and refinement, and the lily of the valley symbolizes sweetness and humility.

Vexy's kimono is dark blue, the same color of her skirt as a Naughtie and representing her new blue life as a true Smurf. The kimono is decorated with lightning bolts and manga-style speed lines, symbolizing her lightning-fast thinking, agility and--oh my--her short temper. Her sash is yellow to represent the lightning. Vex actually likes this kimono because it's SO HER!!! Otherwise, she wouldn't be caught dead in a kimono at all because she thinks they're all too girly. But she wears it anyway because she likes to see Smurfette happy. [Wink]

And yes, I know the girls are sized out of proportion relative to their heads and outfits, but these are two separate drawings I brought together. Enjoy. [Smile]

As for the time-traveling stories from the TV series, I just do what "Dallas" did for Season 7 when Bobby Ewing was gone because he was supposedly dead--it never really happened. If Sony Pictures can pretend the Smurflings never happened, then by Grandpa Smurf's long bushy beard I can pretend the last season of the TV series never happened, too! Love that retcon! [Wink]

With Empath being the kind of character that he is in my series -- no "happy accident" situation for him like in the case of Wild Smurf -- the time-traveling stories with him being the only Smurf left in the present time is part of his history and is very influential on his character and how he relates to his fellow Smurfs following the Lost Year period. So in his case, it can't be simply ignored or just retconned out like Raven Child did through her Smurfette Village series.

Thanks a smurf, Sassette! [Sassette Smurfling]

Next are Nanny, Papa, Grandpa and Brainy. For those who remember the time-traveling TV stories in Japan, rest assured you will not see the guys' butts. They will either have standard Smurf trousers matching their kimono tops or traditional two-piece men's kimonos with white shoes like the ladies.

In the final drawing, Smurfette will serve Vexy first because she is her new sister and she loves her very much. It throws Vex off guard because she expects Grandpa, the oldest, to be served first. Along with the serenity and peace of the ceremony itself, being chosen first brings the usually tough tomboy to happy tears. [Smurfette]

Or, as your namesake later tells Vex after the ceremony, "You're very special, Aunty Vexy. That's why Smurfette smurfed you first. I woulda smurfed that for you too. But I don't know Japanese, so I can't." [Sassette Smurfling] [Wink]

Now it's the boys' turn. Here's Papa Smurf in a kimono.

 -

I chose a traditional men's kimono style, with a jacket over the robe, and added a smurfy twist. Papa's sash is red to match his hat and denote his role as leader of the Smurfs. Usually some kind of family crest or coat of arms is worn on the chest held by white twine, and in this case I made it the familiar blue Smurf head silhouette you see on the cover of the Peyo comic books. He wears trousers--a contemporary men's kimono style--and white shoes. [Smile]

Grandpa may wear a similar kimono, but with different colors (yellow) for his roles as the previous Smurf leader and as a beloved grandfather. [Wink]
