I think so! It's OK that a different kind of Smurf DVD is better than nothing, but if I could choose I'd prefer the complete seasons too.

Thanks Swarlock! Amtrak, it seems like Warner Bros. may be going slightly faster with the releases, right? But still..... we prefer season sets.

For any fans living in the UK:
According to their Facebook page, Fabulous Films Ltd, in conjuction with Arrow Films, have picked up the rights to release the Smurfs in England, and release date information will follow soon. It is believed there will be a complete Season 1 box set, with a complete Season 2 to follow soon afterwards. As an English man, this is the smurfiest news I have heard all year, my favourite cartoon is finally coming to DVD in this country!

What excellent news, Chris. I was beginning to think that England was being permanently ignored with regard to the DVD releases. I am so pleased to know that the Smurfs are coming to England!

Well it's only rumour, but I hope the UK release is a complete season box set. It is definitely a possibility though, since the UK rights to the Smurfs are not owned by Warner Home Video. In fact, no major company has ever owned the rights to release The Smurfs in England when we had VHS. The 80s videos were released by The Video Collection (apart from the odd one released by Lollipop Video), the 90s video were released through Polygram, and the two released in 2000 were through Bonkers (a subsidiary of Contender Entertainment). So under different company rights, the DVDs could be distributed differently over here, and with any luck, quicker, than in the US.

I can now confirm that the UK IS INDEED getting complete season sets of the first two seasons. Season 1 will be released on July 5th and Season 2 will be out September 6th. They are both now up for pre-order at various sites for around £30 each, the Amazon.co.uk links are posted below.
Season 1 pre-order: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smurfs-1-Complete-DVD
Season 2 pre-order: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Smurfs-2-Complete-DVD
Additional information, The Smurfs and the Magic Flute is coming to DVD as well! There is no pre-order or confirmed release date for it yet, but it has just been re-rated with a U certificate by the BBFC, thus confirming that it is on the way. Definitely some of the smurfiest news that I have heard all year, and it's especially great for those fans from England!

No problem, Smurfy1For2. I think the artwork is really lovely on both sets, but I'm a little concerned about how they says "All 27 Episodes" or "All 24 Episodes", because aren't there 39 episodes in Season 1? I only assume that the DVDs will combine two 10-minute stories into 20 minute episodes, like the UK VHS tapes did.
And I'll be sure to notify you when The Smurfs and the Magic Flute becomes available for pre-order, because I believe it will be the first time that it's legally available on DVD?

Thanks for the UK smurfs complete season sets pics, smurfy! That's really ashame of the US release thats they slacks of season set and turn for volume set and now still no news for the US DVD version! ChrisDlike,i owned the smurfs and the magic flute DVD but it's not actually legally or it maybe But it's from televista and quality is right from the film (not remastered and VHS quality) Audio is ok but it's have some hiccups and smurfs voice was too high and hard to heard of what they said. If it's gonna be another version i'll give it a try! ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

Yes, hopefully if these sets have been done right it could put the US DVDs, and their bizarre release schedules, to shame. I am a little concerned about these though, particularly as the Season 2 cover art says "All 24 Episodes". There are surely more than that in Season 2. I also really hope that they have followed the correct order of episodes here, the list that seems to be published everywhere (including this site) is quite wrong. For example, they all list "The Smurfette" episode as being Episode 20-something, and logically we all know that is completely wrong. Surely it IS the 2nd episode of the series, as put on the US Season 1 Part 1 DVD?

Hi Smurfy! Yes, you have a point, the fact that they are finally available in the UK is the most important thing, some Smurf is better than no Smurf at all, and with two box sets and the Magic Flute on the way, it's more than America has got so far.
I am just a little fussy when it comes to quality, usually I like to get the best quality possible. As somebody who has Blu-ray I would have been ecstatic to see our blue friends available in HD, but I knew that would have been a long shot. The DVDs will still be fine and should look good.

ChrisDilke,Blu-ray smurfs videos is always sweet! I only watch blu-ray movies from PS3.(I don't have BD player)but it's works well. How about some special features? Very few people contribute to the smurfs these days...

Brainy Smurf Snaeha, I have no word on what special features will be on the discs, but I may have found out the reason why the Season 2 box set says all "24 " episodes, instead of 36 or something like that. Someone posted an early review of the sets on Amazon.co.uk, and bear in mind that I don't know where they got this information from, so it could be false. Apparently it's because a number of episodes in Season 2 were Johan and Peewit stories, the ones where they were the lead characters and the Smurfs themselves were guests, as apposed to the occasional vise versa roles. Apparently those episodes are being treated as part of their own separate series, which was not overly popular, and won't be included in the Season 2 DVD sets. Like I said I can't confirm whether this is 100% true, but it does make sense to me. And I am not sure what to say to it, I didn't mind the J&P episodes in Season 2, but I don't think I would miss them if they weren't included.

Great news, Chris!! So you and other Smurf fans in the UK might get both seasons with all episodes! I've always found that complete seasons are much more advantageous. And the picture of Smurfs with the magic flute is very cute!! By the way, thanks for the nice pictures, Smurfy!! Brainy S., probably these seasons might be launched in our countries next year due to the new Smurf movie, but don't get disheartened, suddenly the DVDs may appear even before, who knows? ![[Happy Smurf]](graemlins/Happy_Smurf.gif)
