RAW SMURFS |
What are Raw Smurfs / Rohlinge Smurfs?
Raw Smurfs (or Rohlinge Smurfs) are solid color Smurf figures that have not been painted.
Rohlinge is the German word for "blanks"
Raw Smurfs are called many different names: Raw Smurfs, Unpainted Smurfs, Rohlinge Smurfs, Blank Smurfs, and Solid-Color Smurfs.
What makes Raw Smurfs interesting is the fact that because the figurine is entirely unpainted, the base color of the figurine is revealed. In most cases, this means that the figure is entirely white. In other cases, however, the base color of the figurine is something interesting, such as black (in the case of the 2.0425 Furious Gargamel) or even pink and red!
The Raw Smurfs are made by injecting a solid-color into the PVC mold. The base color is chosen based on what the most dominant color for the figurine will be. In the case of Furious Gargamel, he is mostly black (because of his black robe), so the rohlinge is logically black - the painter doesn't need to paint the black areas. For white raw Smurfs, which are the most common, the hats and pants don't need to be painted, because they are already white!

Raw White Smurfs
Raw Smurf becomes a Painted Smurf
You'll find that "raw" White Smurfs are very common because they typically require the least amount of hand-painting. The hats and pants remain unpainted simply because Smurf pants and hats are supposed to be white! Then just the blue skin and a few other accent colors are necessary. For example, the Smurf playing a harp only needs to have his blue skin painted and his golden yellow harp painted. Then there are only a few finishing touches, such as his red mouth and the black detail for his eyes.
