What are Comics No Toxico Smurfs?
Also known as CNT Smurfs, these are unlicensed Spanish figurines with a "Comics No Toxico" gold sticker. They're generally a bit smaller than legitimate figurines and look like good quality.
 Comics No Toxico Smurfs
Comics No Toxico Smurfs (CNT) are counterfeit figurines produced in Spain up until around 1984. Most CNT were produced from real Smurf molds (~1966 to ~1984 era molds) - but without a license. CNT figurines are affixed with a gold sticker on the feet, which reads "Comics No Toxico" - although the 7 x 9.5 mm oval sticker is not always present. The material CNT Smurfs are made from feels different from the PVC used by companies like Schleich. The phrase "no toxico" literally means "non toxic" in Spanish - perhaps the sticker was placed on these pirated Smurfs to alleviate worry that the toys were harmful to children.
Comics No Toxico Smurfs vary in quality. Relative to other Smurf knock-offs, CNT rank near the top, although seasoned experts can quickly identify them as imitations. Some CNT Smurfs look virtually identical to legitimate figuines, while some are smaller in size, have a different mold, or have color / paint variations. Some CNT are completely unique and unavailable as a "legitimate" figure.
Most CNT do not have markings on them, aside from the CNT sticker. Some have the golden CNT sticker, while others do not. Some have Peyo and other markings, although most do not. Some apparently have CNT stamped into the figurine itself. | Comics No Toxico Sticker |
Some CNTs are unique, like the Gargamel figurines featured below. These counterfeit Gargamel figurines are only available as CNT - they were never made as a legitimate figure, and for that reason they are very collectible.

Sometimes people misspell CNT. Aside from "CNT", Comics No Toxico are sometimes given the malapropisms "comic non toxico" or "comics non toxico".
CNT are very collectible, and some of the more unique CNT figures are highly sought after in the collector world. Unlicensed Smurfs like CNT are very popular, and the high quality of CNT Smurfs make them sought after everywhere. The value of a CNT Smurf is higher when the gold sticker is still attached.
If you collect CNT Smurfs, do not remove the sticker! |

What are PVC No Toxico Smurfs?
PVC No Toxico Smurfs (PVCNT) are similar to CNT Smurfs. Instead of a gold sticker, PVC No Toxico Smurfs actually have the words "PVC No Toxico" stamped into the bottom of the Smurf mold, on the base / foot.
PVCNT Smurfs are made from the same material as CNT Smurfs and feel the same, although some white, pink and yellow raw PVCNT figures are made of a softer material than CNT figures.
PVCNT Smurf figurines are immediately distinguishable from CNT because of the distinctive "PVC NO TOXICO" marking stamped directly onto the figurine. | PVC No Toxico Stamp |
