In 2009, Kellogg's featured The Smurfs Skatterz as a fun cereal premium found inside specially marked cereal boxes. The colorful collectible little square discs, called Skatterz, featured a variety of Smurf characters. The 18 Smurf Skatterz are used to play a game. The Skatterz Smurfs were found inside a variety of Kellogg's cereals - Frosties, Coco Pops, Honey Pops, Loops, Chocos, Smacks, Trésor and Rice Krispies. Each cereal box had 3 skatterz inside. What fun to collect them all!
What are Skatterz?
Skatterz are small rubber squares which can be stacked onto each other to create a fun game.

Kellogg's Smurfs Cereal Premiums (2009) --back of Kelloggs box--
The Smurfs Skatterz are small collectible game pieces released as a promotion by Kellogg's in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. Fun images of Smurfs characters are printed on one side of them. The other side has points (+2, +3 or +10) or challenges. There are a total of 18 different Skatterz to be collected.
There are 12 Skatterz with points and 5 Crazy Skatterz with challenges. The 1 Mega Skatterz (Red Papa Smurf) is worth 10 points!
The Smurfs Skatterz Game:
1 Collect as many Skatterz as possible and stack them. 2 Throw the stack of Skatterz hard onto the ground. 3 Now everybody tries to grab as many Skatterz as possible. 4 Count your points and give your friends the tasks printed on the back of the 5 Crazy Skatterz, for the next round. 5 The first player who reaches a score of 30 points wins the game!
Will you be the new Skatterz champion?

 1965 Kelloggs Smurfs Print Ad
Kelloggs Smurfs Comics in Blue Monochrome
This is not the first time that the Smurfs and Kellogg's have collaborated! Their history together goes all the way back to 1965. Kellogg's print ads, with special Corn Flakes-themed Smurf Comics, came in various magazines back in the 1960's. The 1965 issue #20 of Tintin magazine/comic book showed its first Kellogg's Smurf Comic as a half page black and white comic.
The full-page comics were unique beacuse they were not just black and white print but smurfy blue monochrome print.
Kellogg's Promotional Comics - SMURFS (blue monochrome)
Pages in blue monochrome: - How to Smurf Smurf Flakes - Speech is Smurf, but Silence is Golden! - You Have to Know How to Smurf to Be Handsome - He Who Thinks He Smurfs Is Smurfed - Don't Judge a Smurf by His Face - The Smurf Has His Reasons - You Have to Know How to Smurf to Be Handsome - Sayings, with the Smurfs - Good Smurfs Make Good Friends! - Help Yourself, and the Smurf Will Help You - Music Soothes the Smurfs - Travel Broadens the Smurf

More about the interesting history of The Smurfs and Kellogg's from thecursedcountry...
Smurfs and Kellogg´s
This is probably one of the biggest mysteries among PVC Smurf collectors...
Which Smurfs were sold with the Kellogg´s Corn Flakes in 1965 and 1966?
Many collectors think that the first Schleich Smurfs came with these cereal boxes. The reason for this is probably because of what is written in the book "Peyo l'enchanteur" by Hugues Dayez.
Success on the back of a Corn Flakes box
We know that the first Schleich smurfs were made in 1965, but Schleich says they made them for BP Holland then. It is strange that Bully Figuren is mentioned with this promotional action. Bully Figuren was founded in 1973 and could not have had anything to do with the promotion in 1965.
We still do not know which figurines were used, but we have a lot of facts and know for sure that Kellogg's sold PVC Smurfs from Bully Figuren. This however was around 1976 and continued for a few years. For example, in Sweden and Denmark, this was one of the ways you could buy the Bully Smurfs back then.
Here are the facts we have so far... German Kellogg's Advertising (1965)
Many of these smaller adverts, like this one, exist in French. This one is translated to German. Basically the translation to English is like this: "From now you get a voucher on each box of Corn Flakes, which can be changed for a real small Smurf made in soft plastic."
 Kelloggs Advert 1965 Magazine
This is an advert from 1965/66. It is from a magazine and it tells a bit more compared to the smaller adverts. The translation is approximately like this: "Thanks to Kellogg's you can collect real little smurfs mascots". The word mascots were used many times for the Dupuis Smurfs made from Vinyl or Latex. But on the other hand they were not made of soft plastic. But the Keychain Dupuis Smurfs were made of soft plastic. It's still a mystery.
Another good thing to know is that the cereal boxes, as written earlier, did not contain any Smurfs. The translation is like this: "Come and see the Smurf movies at the Super markets. There you will be able to exchange you Smurf voucher from the Kellogg´s Corn Flakes boxes, or the ones from the Rice Krispie boxes. Projections are indicated by advertisements and posters." So it is very hard to say which figurines were exchanged in the Super Markets. Later in 1979, we find more solid information from BP.
Kellogg´s, BP and Bully Figuren in late 1970s
Many of the old Smurf collectors in Sweden says that they bought their first PVC Smurfs from Kellogg´s. They say you could order them from Kellogg´s by filling a order form from the back of the boxes - starting around Christmas 1976. I have always tried to find proof for that and finally I found the missing pieces. In Denmark, Kellogg´s sold the Smurfs in the same way in both Sweden and Denmark.

In this BP Newsletter, from August 1979, you can see that Kellogg´s sold 600,000 Smurf figurines in Scandinavia during this promotion. And wanted to continue the promotion because of the success. They also say that their co-operation had been instrumental in promoting Smurfs in Denmark.

Each discovered a boss of paradoxical character, for the artist was both insecure and hypercritical. Peyo once characterized his job as "like that of a playwright. When I'm writing, I enjoy myself enormously. But the production, the drawing itself, is more of a chore." Although doubtful of his graphic skills, Peyo was unwilling or unable to delegate. Every passing year and each new success made him more and overextended.
The Smurfs' first forty-page story, Le Schtroumpfissime (King Smurf) appeared in 1964. The female La Schtroumpfette (Smurfette) followed in 1966. The same year, Peyo was approached by Kellogg's Benelux, who wanted plastic Smurfs to put in Corn Flakes boxes. The artist was so delighted he even drew all the ads. When this initiative ended, the figures' manufacturer - Germany's Bully Figuren - got in contact. They urged Peyo to start licensing figurines.
Culliford approached Charles Dupuis as a partner but his publisher laughed at the idea. His company, Dupuis told Peyo, "didn't sell plastic toys." So Peyo took the plunge into merchandising alone. With all Smurf marketing, he was the sole beneficiary.
This decision radically changed his life. When François Walthéry had joined the Culliford household, only Peyo's mother-in-law telephoned the studio. But, within a year, their phone was ringing off the hook. Peyo spent hours and hours every day on marketing. He started working at night, when things were quieter, and tried to compensate with naps after lunch. To meet his many deadlines, this meant more all-nighters. But, as Jean Roba put it, "Back then, if you needed help, you could phone anyone. You could ask at any hour, time didn't matter."
The human support system anchored more than Peyo's work; its artist friendships mattered very deeply to him. Even the Smurfs' world, he felt, reflected them. "Me, Jijé, Franquin, Morris, Roba, Yvan, Tillieux we were a gang. We saw each other all the time and it wasn't just for work. It was more about the sheer pleasure of being together."

Here are Swedish cutouts from back of Kellogg´s boxes. And all these smurfs figures were bought from Kellogg's.
The Smurfs were sold in 2 series with 24 items each then, so this was probably around 1978.
You can see that the images are exactly like the Bully Figuren poster from 1976/77. So therefore we can be 100% sure that these were Smurfs sold by Bully. This was also at the time when BP started negotiating about selling Smurfs in the UK.
So my guess is that this was the years (around 1976/77) when Peyo asked Dupuis if he wanted to be a part in manufacture and sell Smurf figurines. Dupuis answered "We sell printed papers, not plastic toys". So in my opinion, the text in the beginning refers to these years. Still no clue about the 1965 Kellogg´s Smurfs though. Could be either of these: the first Schleich Smurfs or the Dupuis Keychain Smurfs.
