Papa Smurf's Treasure Hunt
The game is a simple but appealing old-fashioned treasure hunt. Select a Smurf character and then go on your way, ducking troubles along the path. Follow clues and find the treasure!
The advertising flyer reads:
JOIN A SMURF™ TREASURE HUNT!
The Smurf™ village is having a treasure hunt. Choose your favorite Smurf™ character, then send him to find the treasures. Beware of running into troubles along the way. Start by taking your hero out of the village in a car through the forest. Check for clues along the way. It sounds simple, but there are all kinds of dangers in your path. Once you find all the treasures, a party begins.

Is it Real?
Apparently, a single animated screen of the game was created and showcased at exhibitions in the United States and Canada around 1983. So the game, or at least an animation, supposedly exists in some form.
Why Wasn't it Released?
There was a video game "crash" starting around 1983 and ending around 1985 where video game sales fell dramatically. This game may have been cut in response to the market turmoil of the time.
Legacy
Who wouldn't want to go on a treasure hunt with the Smurfs? Although we didn't get to play it, at least we got to read about it!
Trivia
This game sounds almost identical to the unreleased Atari 2600 and Intellivision game Smurfette's Birthday.
Papa Smurf's Treasure Hunt features the same Coleco catalog number (#2444) as another unreleased ColecoVision Smurf game, Smurf Play & Learn.
