Can someone tell me how I tell a real smurf figure from a fake? I have heaps of smurfs from about 15 years ago or so and am new to all this so don't know the difference as yet. Any replies would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Penni

Hello

Official and genuine smurfs are made by Schleich, german company.
You can find smurfs from Portugal, Macau, Hong Kong, Germany, etc, but they always have the signatures:

Schleich

-the year-
-the country-

There were some made by Bully, also © Peyo.

Hi Penni, generally faked smurfs are not quite as good quality wise. They tend to have rougher seams, blurred writing, the material is often different - much softer and sometimes harder more plastic type material. Slightly different mold shapes can be found and sometimes colours are slightly different.

There are some very good fakes around, especially of some of the more expensive figures, unfortunately as soon as someting becomes valuable there will always be someone trying to make a fast buck.

Also consider that smurfs are sometimes painted with ***rare*** variation colours to increase their value.

Do remember though that fake figures are also collected by some smurf collectors.

Just be very careful if you are ever offered a very rare expensive smurf for a lot less money than it should be worth.

Hope this helps and hasn't confused and dismayed you too much.
