Hi all, I have just discovered that smurfvalley has now become an adult orientated site (porn) !!!!
As you can imagine I am not at all happy as there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. This is of course due to the action IMPS has taken recently. What I believe has happened is the domain name has been registered for this purpose as it used to generate high numbers of visitors (and by the looks of it still is as it is still showing on search engines).
So instead of protecting the smurf character which is why I had to stop using the domain name, the smurf name is now being associated with adult content, not at all suitable for children.

I will be contacting IMPS immediately to see if there is anything they can do, in the mean time if anybody has not updated their links to smurf valley / blue imps PLEASE do so. Also I suggest that if anyone else discovers this has happened elsewhere please let us or IMPS know about it immediately. Here is the IMPS email - business@smurf.com / imps@smurf.com

Unless IMPS wish to register every domain name that they have stopped us using this could be a real problem due to the high web traffic generated, smurfvalley had only become available a few days ago.

Also just to explain how popular the smurf etc domain names are, I was offered www.smurfs.net last week for $630 !!

My condolences, Rachel.

It is unfortunate that businesses which take a dilettante-like interest in the Internet can have such a negative impact.

However, this is really the only foreseeable conclusion that can arise with companies that dabble in subjects they don't understand.

The new owners of smurfvalley may keep the site listed as a "Smurfs" site indefinitely. A tragedy, indeed - one that is entirely not your fault, and one that could have been completely avoided if the most basic aspects of common sense and decency were observed.

But "common sense" is not the path that has been chosen.

Hi Papa, Thanks for the support.
I just can't believe that people can be that unscrouplous, knowing that many children will visit a site with a name like this. I was told by IMPS that I had to provide written confirmation that I no longer owned the domain name. Surely, unless they are prepared to register all these domain names they are going to find this happening again and again.

I actually discovered this earlier today and within a couple of hours my brother also phoned to let me know as he had clicked on an old link he had seen.

I have already contacted IMPS but I'm not sure whether there is actually much they can do.

Hi Tim, I was the webmaster of Smurf Valley. I had to change the name to Blue Imps as IMPS requested that I did not use the word smurf in the domain name.
Now unfortunately this has happened.

With any luck, the old site will be de-listed from the search engines in a reasonable amount of time. I just hope kids don't stumble upon it.
