I really have trouble enjoying smurfs in the context of the cartoon as an adult, but I love the smurfs themselves and collect the figurines, so I've just made my own elaborate headcanon to make up a whole new lore for them for my own enjoyment and story building.

I like to think of them more in a pagan/nature-y context, as like a sub-class of elemental gnomes in the fae kingdom.

SO: I drew this little illustration of a smurf at work while working on the lore for this idea. (I know that this has absolutely nothing to do with what the smurfs actually are or what the show is actually about, this is just a little thing i work on for my own creative enjoyment.)

Like most gnomes, they're be sprites of the earth who exist to keep it lush and thriving, but instead of actively growing new life from
the Earth, they work on the other end of the process- helping the organic decay that returns it back to the earth, so new life will begin again.

This one is titled "New Return"

Smurfs as in the people is spelled with a capital S. NEVER with a small s.

I'll... take note of that I guess? I'm more concerned with the actual content of the posts themselves when I put one together, so I can't promise I'll be too hung up on the small things like capitalization while I'm just trying to coherently explain my own silly story ideas
