Hello everyone. First time on this message board. Little background. This is all true, so hopefully you will believe me.
I have immediately family that lived in Brussels when I was younger. My sister and I would visit my grandparents every summer for about 6 weeks.
My grandparents house was only TWO houses away from where Peyo lived! They were good neighbors to each other. Sometimes Peyo's daughter would babysit us. We were even fortunate enough to be able to go into Peyo's attic where he did all his work. My memory is not as good as it used to be, but I can say it was completely amazing seeing all the little Smurfs, a goldmine! (This was 30 years ago, before Smurfs became popular in the US).
I was very fortunate to have a specialized painting and autograph by Peyo. It says in Flemish "Hello Christopher; Have a nice day!". I still have it hanging up in my house.
My question is I would like to have it appraised and know the value of the paiting; I have had little luck using Google. Can anyone help me?

Hi kott you are so lucky!!! That is the coolest story ever. Take a picture of the painting and post it here on the message board and once we can take a look at it someone might be able to help yuo.

There might be a thread for that somewhere on the forum, but I'll tell my story here. It's pretty short.
My sister grew up with the show. She had a Smurfs sleeping bag that I used during a fourth grade sleep-over. I finally got to watch the show when my family got satellite, and I think I really got into it when Cartoon Network aired a marathon.
I'm probably one of the youngest members here.

That is a fasinating story indeed. I would like to see your panting for sure. I could be worth a lot being it is personaly autographed. Could be worth even more after the new movie comes out next year ![[Wink]](wink.gif)
As for the history of how I became interested in the Smurfs. A kid growing up in the 80's I lived mostly in the country. There I only had 2 channels, every Saturday morning one of the channels would air the Smurfs. The other aired some lame show (can't remember what it was). I enjoyed watching the smurfs. During the time I also saw a cool movie called "Watership Down". Both the Smurfs and Watership Down have been inspiring for my fanfiction story "The Smurfette Village".
It was in 2001 when my late husband started getting really ill with his diabeties and had to go on dialysis because his kidenys started suffering that I decided to start writing the story and posted it on the internet. My husband had recently passed away in 2005 due to his complications with diabeties and kidney problems.
I had just finished the 3rd story to the saga, and eventually if time is a little more on my side I shall start writting the 4th and final story.

That is sooo neat! You are very lucky to have such a nice personalized painting from Peyo. I hope you share a photo of it with us (hint, hint!)
I first became interested in The Smurfs when my family moved to England for a short time when I was about 4 years old. At that time you were given a free smurf figure whenever you filled the car up with petrol. Since my teenage siblings were "too cool" for such things, I ended up with a little collection of Smurfs! Later when we moved back home, I watched the Saturday morning cartoon without fail. I watched Shirt Tails, The Smurfs and Alvin & the Chipmunks each week. And I have loved The Smurfs ever since!

I will take a digital picture over the weekend and share with the group. I used to have over 20 Smurfs, but I can't find them. Not happy with myself. ![[Frown]](frown.gif)
