what episode were the purple smurfs in?

Just the episode called "The Purple Smurfs".
I created an EMPATH: THE LUCKIEST SMURF story back in the mid-1980s called "Revenge Of The Purple Smurfs" where the Purple Flies return with a form of Purple Smurf Disease that was seemingly incurable, and Empath who was infected by the disease had a rather delayed reaction that made him alternate between acting like a normal Smurf and acting like a Purple Smurf. Papa Smurf discovers that there's a humanoid insect creature who's responsible for the Purple Flies and goes off into the cave where he resides to defeat this mastermind and rescue Baby Smurf who's been kidnapped by Hefty as a Purple Smurf and taken to this creature's lair. I never finished the story, however. And this was before I even tacked on Superman-like powers to Empath.

I totally remember that!
They jumped around like little bugs. The purple guys bit the regular smurfs in the butt and theyd get infected.
Scared the smurf out of me!

"The Purple Smurfs" is one of my most favorie episodes ever made.

I saw that episode a long time ago on cartoon network and remembered one thrilling moment when Papa Smurf found himself in his lab surrounded by a large number of purple smurfs.To this day i remember this moment when he noticed that he is the last healthy smurf. But unfortunately i can`t remember the way he had healed the smurfs.
But one thing i am sure they should have bought a bugspray.

"The Purple Smurfs" is utterly terrifying. Even with repeated viewings, it's still scary!

I just have watched Purple Smurfs episode and i must say that it scared the smurf out of me !! By the way the symptoms of that purple disease reminds me symptoms of the FEV virus. In a computer game named Fallout there was such a virus, which symptoms were very similar to those of that purple disease. Increased aggression, and strength. Skin color changes into green in this case purple. But of course it did not chanched the smurfs into super warriors. As it was ment to do it with humans in Fallout. Smurfs as super warriors hmm...... I wonder where this plague came from.

The episode never scared me. But I did notice Purple Smurf Hefty disguised as a normal blue Smurf bit off part of Papa Smurf's pants when he bit Papa Smurf's tail near the end.
