COMICS NO TOXICO SMURFS
What are the Comics No Toxico basics?

Also known as CNT Smurfs, these are Spanish knock-off figurines with a "Comics No Toxico" gold sticker. They're generally a bit smaller than legitimate figurines, good quality, and have no markings.
What are Comics No Toxico Smurfs?

Comics No Toxico Smurfs are counterfeit figurines produced in Spain up until around 1984. These Smurfs were produced from the original molds but without a license. CNT figurines are affixed with a gold sticker on the feet which reads "Comics No Toxico" - although the 7 x 9.5 mm ovoid sticker sticker is not always present. The material CNT Smurfs are made from feels different from the PVC used by companies like Schleich. The phrase "no toxico" literally means "non toxic" in Spanish - perhaps the sticker was placed on these pirated Smurfs to alleviate worry that the toys were harmful to children.

What do CNT Smurfs look like?

Comics No Toxico Smurfs are unlicensed Smurfs of varying quality. Relative to other Smurf knock-offs, CNT rank near the top, although seasoned experts can quickly identify them as imitations. Some CNT Smurfs look virtually identical to legitimate figuines, while some are smaller in size, have a different mold, or have color / paint variations. Most CNT do not have markings on them, aside from the CNT sticker.
What about markings?

There are no standard rules for CNT Smurfs regarding their markings. Some have the golden CNT sticker, while others do not. Some have Peyo markings, although most do not. Some apparently even have CNT stamped into the figurine itself.
What CNT Smurfs are available?

CNT figures are available featuring the molds of the Schleich / Bully range of figurines spanning the years ~1966 to ~1984.
Are Comics No Toxico known by any other names?

Aside from "CNT", Comics No Toxico are sometimes given the malapropisms "comic non toxico" or "comics non toxico".
How collectable are CNT Smurfs?

Very.
Unlicensed Smurfs are very popular in the collecting realm, and CNT Smurfs are sought after the world over. The value of a CNT Smurf is higher when the gold sticker is still attached - if you collect CNT Smurfs, do not remove the sticker!
What are PVC No Toxico Smurfs?

PVC No Toxico Smurfs (PVCNT) are similar to CNT Smurfs. Instead of a gold sticker, PVC No Toxico Smurfs actually have the words "PVC No Toxico" stamped into the bottom of the Smurf mold, on the base / foot. PVCNT Smurfs are made from the same material as CNT Smurfs and feel the same, although some white, pink and yellow raw PVCNT figures are made of a softer material than CNT figures.
Are there any other types of CNT or PVCNT Smurfs?

Spain has produced many knock-off Smurf figurines, but not all
Spanish counterfeit Smurfs are CNT or PVCNT. These non-CNT/PVCNT figurines are often of very low quality. A few have a "Made in Spain" sticker.
