George Lopez is a funny man. A stand-up comedian, George is also a man of distinction: he was nominated for a Best Comedy Album Grammy in 2004 for his comedy album "Team Leader". As well, he is only the fourth Latino ever to be the main star of a sitcom (called "George Lopez"). Not to mention he starred in his own talk show, "Lopez Tonight".

George Lopez is the voice of Grouchy Smurf in the Smurfs series of films. The raspy quality of his own speaking voice adds a natural "grouchiness" to his interpretation of Grouchy. George's acting chops also allow Grouchy to display a level of vulnerability, as when he opens his heart up during the first film's FAO Swartz scene. Whether grouchy or in touch with his feelings, George Lopez has the Grouchy Smurf spirit!
SMURFY INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE LOPEZ
Grouchy Smurf Character George Lopez is Grouchy Smurf
George Lopez grew up watching The Smurfs cartoon in both English and Spanish...

"The Smurfs is a worldwide franchise - they're Los Pitufos in Spanish - so I saw the Smurfs bilingually, when I was growing up."

George Lopez says he simply dialed his own inner crank up to 11 to play the role of Grouchy Smurf in the movie...

"I had no coffee. I picked the busiest time to get to the studio. I made sure I had bad breath. And I have a daughter, she's 15, and that'll keep you grouchy all by itself. When I first saw Grouchy, he had his arms crossed, eyebrows down, and I thought it was just a bluish resemblance to how I normally look."

"We're Mexi-cans not Mexi-can'ts."

"Two wrongs do not make a right; but three rights make a left."
