This is a visual example of why I think the Smurfs in the live-action/CGI film are better than other characters done as live-action/CGI.

That's pretty cool! So far, I think that the movie industries have done a good job so far on CGI. [Wild Smurf] Thanks Vic!

The point I'm trying to make here is that, with the other live-action/CGI productions, it's pretty obvious that the animal characters are CGI characters since Garfield doesn't exactly look like a real cat, Yogi doesn't exactly look like a real bear, and Alvin, Simon, and Theodore don't exactly look like real chipmunks. CGI Scooby-Doo is probably very close to resembling a real dog. So comparing the CGI Smurfs to other CGI animated cartoon characters doesn't really hold up because Smurfs don't have real-life counterparts that they can be compared to.

Great to see the comparisons. By the way, here's the first Alvin & the Chipmunks look - from the 60s.

In my opinion, the original cartoon animation can't be beat. But that was a pretty smurfy visual example!

Well, if you're going for a really stylistic look, like how Hey Arnold or Phineas and Ferb characters are drawn, 2D animation is the preferred format to present them in, because you can make everything look batsmurf insane without much of a problem.

I enjoy the smurf and chipmunk movies, but I'm a bit of a purist and I prefer 2-d animation. I don't know about you, but I think the 2-d smurfs are cuter than the CGI ones. [Wink]

I only use a cartoon style out of convenience instead of preference. I have no desire of having Empath be stuck in a 2D animation prison if I can get such a live-action/CGI production going.

Indeed. [Wild Smurf] Vic George is currently writing a book about Empath. Vic George, please post your book on this site when you're finished if that's possible! I enjoy the comic books you have posted on the site, and I had forgotten about Century Smurf until I read "The Hundredth Smurf." Thanks! [Wink]
