I have started doing a fan translation of "The Wild Smurf", using Google Translator to help me with converting the Dutch text into English and then scripting it into something that makes sense while trying to maintain the humor of the story. So far I have several pages translated.

I love it! I for one really appreciate the translation. I have been wondering if there were English translations of some of the older Smurf stories.

As far as I know, only several of the original Peyo Smurf comic book stories got translated into English. I had collected most of them that were published in paperback by Random House, The ones that never saw an English translation are the ones that Papercutz is now starting to release, like "The Black Smurfs" which got changed into "The Purple Smurfs" in deference to the cartoon show and to avoid racism.

The intended song the Smurflings were singing was "Smurfbop", an analog of Hanson's "Mmmbop", as shown in this update:

I've got the whole comic book story completed. It admittedly comes off sounding more like an adaptation than a direct translation, because there's parts of the text that a translator program can't make any sense of. Also, and probably the one thing that helps, is that the foreign language text uses the word "smurf" a lot less than any English-translated Smurf comic book, so for Smurf characters it's easy to "smurf up their language" in English.
