According to the Reporter's Inside Stories interview with Handy, he's supposed to be the son of Clockwork Smurf and Clockwork Smurfette, built by them out of love.

He's not just Hefty and Handy's dad...he's also responsible for Grouchy! He mentions this in "Days Of Auld Lang Smurf" when he finds that his Papa Smurf doesn't treat him any better than he did when he was alive years ago, and that upsets him to the point where he tells his Papa Smurf that he never wants to see him again...which causes him to disappear from Grouchy's sight.

Thank you, Squeaky, though it looks more like a Purple Smurf in his "terrible twenties" (the Smurf version of the "terrible twos", by my reckoning).
To Raven: the real sad part is that the whole "family reunion" scene of the entire story is Chlorhydris' evil work.

Thank you very much, Shane J! I've just entered the site and it was great watching this episode again! What I didn't remember at all was Brainy playing the Sherlock (though his trench coat gave him a Humphrey Bogart look), with Clumsy as his Watson. ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

The baby Smurfs pied are Baby Smurf (Miracle, his final name in the EMPATH: The Luckiest Smurf novel) and Baby Smurfette (Psycheliana, Empath and Smurfette's daughter).
Brainy are Clumsy are supposed to be S.B.I. (Smurfy Bureau Of Investigation) agents rather than Holmes-and-Watson detectives in that episode.
