OK, so, it's the 4th, so the answer is crab apple. I don't know where I heard/read that being the apple used to measure smurfs, but I remembered it and it makes sense.

Oh well, I was wrong! But I guess you smurf something new everyday...

I just looked up the difference between regular apples and crab apples...

"Apples and crabapples are in the rose family, Rosaceae, in the genus Malus. Crabapples are differentiated from apples based on fruit size. If fruit is two inches in diameter or less, it is termed a crabapple. If the fruit is larger than two inches, it is classified as an apple."

Soooo... assuming a crabapple is round for the most part and that smurfs are 3 apples high - I guess that means that a smurf would be 6 inches or less!

I'm not so sure crab apples are right now that I've just found a scene in "The Hundredth Smurf" where Papa Smurf comments on a rotten crab apple and then a whole bunch fall on him and Vanity! 3 of them don't look as tall as a smurf so they must be a special "smurfesticated" ("domestismurfed"? domesticated, anyway) variety. [Razz]
