What are Kinder Surprise Eggs? Well, they are hollow milk chocolate eggs that have a surprise toy inside! The toy comes in a little plastic egg - the fun part (besides the fact that you get to eat the chocolate!) is that you get to assemble the toy yourself. Inside the egg, you'll find instructions along with a sheet showcasing the entire collection of a particular theme. For example, the Smurfs Kinder Surprise collection for 1997 has 5 Garden Smurfs and 4 Musical Smurfs to collect. There are several themes to collect in any given year.
The company Ferrero has been manufacturing Kinder Surprise in Italy since 1972. The Kinders are distributed throughout most of the world (with a large following in Europe and Canada) but are most notably absent in the USA. Kinder Surprise collectors are always searching for that last toy in a particular collection. Many collectors throughout the world will trade and buy collections from years gone by -- all the while looking forward to the new lines coming out every year. You just never know what toy you will get when you open a Kinder Surprise!
